Parents with Autistic or Asperger's children..?

My son is going for testing at the end of this month. He's 2 and a half. He has shedded most of his autistic tendencies but yet I am the mom who over worries. He is still a late talker but finally talking some! He has started playing with other kids, Started pointing, etc etc. About the extent of his symptoms now are that he is still not talking that great (is putting some words together and has about 20-30 words in all) and he still isn't the greatest with communication. I am pretty confident that he is not autistic as of right now but I am getting him tested to be on the safe side and to know for sure. SO parents to autistic or aspie's what was your childrens symptoms when they was young? Did they loose much of them when they got older? Like around 2? And when was they diagnosed and what was the diagnosing process like?
